Famous quotes containing the words flames and/or freedom:
“Sole and self-commanded works,
Fears not undermining days,
Grows by decays,
And, by the famous might that lurks
In reaction and recoil,
Makes flames to freeze, and ice to boil.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I wish most sincerely there was not a slave in this province. It always appeared a most iniquitous scheme to meto fight ourselves for what we are daily robbing and plundering from those who have as good a right to freedom as we have.”
—Abigail Adams (17441818)
