Description
Each side of the flag consists of three equal, horizontal bands: red, white, and blue, with an emblem centred in the white band. The emblem on the obverse side is the national coat of arms of Paraguay: a yellow five-pointed star surrounded by a green wreath capped by the words ("Republic of Paraguay"), all within two concentric circles); the emblem on the reverse side is the seal of the treasury (a yellow lion below a red Phrygian cap and the words Paz y Justicia ("Peace and Justice") capped by, again within two circles.
Its colours bear resemblance to the modern flag of the Netherlands.
The design of the flag was simplified in 1991.

Famous quotes containing the word description:
“God damnit, why must all those journalists be such sticklers for detail? Why, theyd hold you to an accurate description of the first time you ever made love, expecting you to remember the color of the room and the shape of the windows.”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
“To give an accurate description of what has never occurred is not merely the proper occupation of the historian, but the inalienable privilege of any man of parts and culture.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
“The next Augustan age will dawn on the other side of the Atlantic. There will, perhaps, be a Thucydides at Boston, a Xenophon at New York, and, in time, a Virgil at Mexico, and a Newton at Peru. At last, some curious traveller from Lima will visit England and give a description of the ruins of St. Pauls, like the editions of Balbec and Palmyra.”
—Horace Walpole (17171797)
