Colours and Proportions
The "red" colour of the Latvian flag is in fact maroon, a particularly dark shade of red which is composed of brown and purple. It is sometimes referred to as Latvian red. The flag's colour proportions are 2:1:2 (the upper and lower red bands each being twice as wide as the central white band), and the ratio of the height of the flag to its width is fixed at 1:2.

Famous quotes containing the words colours and, colours and/or proportions:
“I should need
Colours and words that are unknown to man,
To paint the visionary dreariness”
—William Wordsworth (17701850)
“Your wits cant thicken in that soft moist air, on those white springy roads, in those misty rushes and brown bogs, on those hillsides of granite rocks and magenta heather. Youve no such colours in the sky, no such lure in the distances, no such sadness in the evenings. Oh the dreaming! the dreaming! the torturing, heart-scalding, never satisfying dreaming, dreaming, dreaming, dreaming!”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“... spinsterhood [is considered to be] an abnormality of small proportions and small consequence, something like an extra finger or two on the body, presumably of temporary duration, and never of any social significance.”
—Mary Putnam Jacobi (18421906)
