Fitzgerald's - History

History

Fitzgerald's was built in 1918, and for over half a century it was home to the Dom Polski, a Polish center and dance hall. In 1977, Sara Fitzgerald took over the property and opened one of Houston's oldest and best known live music venues. It was later acquired by Omar Afra of Free Press Houston/Free Press Summer Fest and Jagi Katial of Pegstar.net in September 2010.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of any nation follows an undulatory course. In the trough of the wave we find more or less complete anarchy; but the crest is not more or less complete Utopia, but only, at best, a tolerably humane, partially free and fairly just society that invariably carries within itself the seeds of its own decadence.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)

The greatest honor history can bestow is that of peacemaker.
    Richard M. Nixon (1913–1995)

Postmodernism is, almost by definition, a transitional cusp of social, cultural, economic and ideological history when modernism’s high-minded principles and preoccupations have ceased to function, but before they have been replaced with a totally new system of values. It represents a moment of suspension before the batteries are recharged for the new millennium, an acknowledgment that preceding the future is a strange and hybrid interregnum that might be called the last gasp of the past.
Gilbert Adair, British author, critic. Sunday Times: Books (London, April 21, 1991)
