Fischer Indole Synthesis - Buchwald Modification

Buchwald Modification

Using palladium chemistry developed at MIT by Stephen Buchwald, the Fischer indole synthesis can be completed using aryl bromides as starting materials. Note that this also gives evidence to the fact that hydrazones are potential intermediates in the classical Fischer indole synthesis.

Methanesulfonic acid can be used as the acid catalyst in this reaction.

Famous quotes containing the word buchwald:

A child is born with the potential ability to learn Chinese or Swahili, play a kazoo, climb a tree, make a strudel or a birdhouse, take pleasure in finding the coordinates of a star. Genetic inheritance determines a child’s abilities and weaknesses. But those who raise a child call forth from that matrix the traits and talents they consider important.
