FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007 were held at Åre, Sweden, from February 2–18, 2007. Åre previously hosted the world championships in 1954, and often hosts late season World Cup events.

The FIS awarded the 2007 event in 2002; other finalists were Lillehammer, Norway, and Val d'Isère, France, which was later selected to host the world championships in 2009.

These were the first world championships to use the "super-combined" format (one run each of downhill & slalom) for the combined event. First run on the World Cup circuit in 2005 at Wengen, the "super-combi" format (SC) made its debut at the Winter Olympics in 2010. The traditional combined format (K) consists of one downhill run and two slalom runs.

Famous quotes containing the words alpine, world and/or ski:

    I held a bayonet
that was for the earth of your stomach.
The belly button singing its puzzle.
The intestines winding like the alpine roads.
It was made to enter you
    as you have entered me....
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Your responsibility as a parent is not as great as you might imagine. You need not supply the world with the next conqueror of disease or a major movie star. If your child simply grows up to be someone who does not use the word “collectible” as a noun, you can consider yourself an unqualified success.
    Fran Lebowitz (20th century)

The goal for all blind skiers is more freedom. You don’t have to see where you’re going, as long as you go. In skiing, you ski with your legs and not with your eyes. In life, you experience things with your mind and your body. And if you’re lacking one of the five senses, you adapt.
Lorita Bertraun, Blind American skier. As quoted in WomenSports magazine, p. 29 (January 1976)
