First North Western was a train operating company in the United Kingdom owned by First that operated the North West Regional Railways franchise from March 1997 until December 2004.
The franchise was awarded by the Director of Passenger Rail Franchising to Great Western Holdings. In March 1998 First bought the remaining 75.5% of shares it did not own to give it 100% ownership. First rebranded the franchise from North Western Trains to First North Western.

Famous quotes containing the words north and/or western:
“We have heard all of our lives how, after the Civil War was over, the South went back to straighten itself out and make a living again. It was for many years a voiceless part of the government. The balance of power moved away from itto the north and the east. The problems of the north and the east became the big problem of the country and nobody paid much attention to the economic unbalance the South had left as its only choice.”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
“Institutions of higher education in the United States are products of Western society in which masculine values like an orientation toward achievement and objectivity are valued over cooperation, connectedness and subjectivity.”
—Yolanda Moses (b. 1946)
