Finnish Rapid Deployment Force - Amphibious Task Unit

Amphibious Task Unit

Another training site is Uusimaa Brigade where the ATU, or Amphibious Task Unit, is trained. The force trained yearly there is about the equivalent of a Coastal jäger platoon, about 40-50 servicemen. ATU servicemen differ from the Pori Brigade servicemen in that they have already served a period of their conscript service in the Nyland Brigade before applying. ATU applicants have basically the same admission tests as regular FRDF, except that applicants to the ATU also have to go through a swimming test, and are also required to have a B-class driver's licence. The units train separately, but both wear the "Rapid Deployment Force" arch insignia.

The ATU is a joint project with the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish forces being trained at Amfibieregementet (1st Amphibious Regiment), with joint exercises held regularly.

Famous quotes containing the words amphibious, task and/or unit:

We are amphibious creatures, weaponed for two elements, having two sets of faculties, the particular and the catholic.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

We Russians have assigned ourselves no other task in life but the cultivation of our own personalities, and when we’re barely past childhood, we set to work to cultivate them, those unfortunate personalities.
    Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev (1818–1883)

During the Suffragette revolt of 1913 I ... [urged] that what was needed was not the vote, but a constitutional amendment enacting that all representative bodies shall consist of women and men in equal numbers, whether elected or nominated or coopted or registered or picked up in the street like a coroner’s jury. In the case of elected bodies the only way of effecting this is by the Coupled Vote. The representative unit must not be a man or a woman but a man and a woman.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
