Finnish Film Foundation

The Finnish Film Foundation (Finnish: Suomen elokuvasäätiö; Swedish: Finlands filmstiftelse), is an independent foundation with the task of supporting and developing Finnish film production, distribution and exhibition. It is supervised by the Department for Cultural Policy in the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The foundation is supported by grants from the Finnish national lottery and by the Finnish Broadcasting Company. The Finnish Film Foundation’s headquarters with its auditoriums are located in Katajanokka, Helsinki in a 19th-century harbour terminal.

The foundation is responsible for the export and international promotion of Finnish films. It also grants film production support for individual films, with an aim of supporting "high quality" productions.

The Managing Director of the foundation is Irina Krohn, a former member of the Finnish parliament, who replaced Jouni Mykkänen as the director on 1 August 2006.

Famous quotes containing the words finnish, film and/or foundation:

A conversation in English in Finnish and in French can not be held at the same time nor with indifference ever or after a time.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

I think of horror films as art, as films of confrontation. Films that make you confront aspects of your own life that are difficult to face. Just because you’re making a horror film doesn’t mean you can’t make an artful film.
    David Cronenberg (b. 1943)

Surrealism is not a school of poetry but a movement of liberation.... A way of rediscovering the language of innocence, a renewal of the primordial pact, poetry is the basic text, the foundation of the human order. Surrealism is revolutionary because it is a return to the beginning of all beginnings.
    Octavio Paz (b. 1914)
