Reception
According to the Associated Press, Final Fight 2 did not have the amount of moves in Capcom's Street Fighter II, but the addition of a two-player mode was seen an improvement over the SNES original. AP rated the music as average, but complimented the graphics, in particular the backgrounds. A review by The Rocky Mountain News was far more negative, calling the game "representative of only the worst properties in a fighting game" and criticizing it for having "bleak locales, uninteresting characters, unchallenging gameplay" and adhering to the "walk to the right, tap the buttons" formula. IGN echoed the sentiments about repetitive gameplay in the review of the Virtual Console release, calling it "pretty straightforward" and "a bit bland", but still a "decent brawler experience", although lamenting that Guy was not included when his fiancée was kidnapped in the story. However, Nintendo Power hailed "great game play and well-animated characters".
