Club Career
Oliveira started his footballing career with local Sporting de Braga, joining the club's youth system at the age of 11. Still in his teens, he was bought by Chelsea, for a reported cost of £500,000, making his Premier League debut away against Manchester City. However, he never managed to break into the main squad and, from December 2004-January 2005, served a spell at Preston North End.
Also in 2004–05, he played once for Chelsea, as a substitute in the last game against Newcastle United. During the summer of 2005, Oliveira was loaned to Club Sport Marítimo, with defender Nuno Morais in the same predicament. After the season finished, he agreed to be released from his contract and signed with the Madeira-based team.
After his second season, which included his first Portuguese top flight goal, in a 2–3 loss at neighbours C.D. Nacional, Oliveira was released and joined Leixões SC, which had just returned to the first level after several decades of absence.
In June 2008, after having helped the Matosinhos club retain its league status, Oliveira returned to Braga, now as a senior player, signing a two-year contract. He appeared very rarely throughout 2008–09, one of his few chances being a 5–0 win at C.F. Os Belenenses.
After the January 2010 sale of starter João Pereira to Sporting Clube de Portugal, Oliveira became the first-choice right back, and finished the season with 17 appearances, as Braga achieved a best-ever second place in the league.
In July 2010, he joined Italian team Parma FC – who paid K.A.S. Eupen a fee of €1 million (5% Solidarity Contribution included) – being called-up to training camp on the 12th. Two weeks later, he was loaned to another club in the country, Torino FC, for €600,000, with the Serie B side having an option to buy half of his contract at the season's end; he was recalled from his spell in the following transfer window, only managing one official appearance during his first season (25 minutes in a 1–1 away draw against Cagliari Calcio, in Serie A's last round).
In early August 2011, Oliveira was sent on loan to Videoton FC in Hungary.

Famous quotes containing the words club and/or career:
“The creation of strong-minded women, so-called, is due to the individualism of men, to the modern selfish and speculative spirit which absorbs everything within itself and leaves women nothing but self-assertion for their protection and support.”
—Jennie June Croly 18291901, U.S. founder of the womans club movement, journalist, author, editor. Demorests Illustrated Monthly and Mirror of Fashions, p. 44 (February 1870)
“I doubt that I would have taken so many leaps in my own writing or been as clear about my feminist and political commitments if I had not been anointed as early as I was. Some major form of recognition seems to have to mark a womans career for her to be able to go out on a limb without having her credentials questioned.”
—Ruth Behar (b. 1956)
