File Dialog

In computing, a file dialog (also called File Selector/Chooser, file requester, or open and save dialog) is a dialog box that allows users to choose a file from the file system. File dialogs differ from file managers as they are not intended for file management (although some offer simple operations such as folder creation), rather they are intended for the opening and saving of files. Before file dialogs, most programs requested files as a command line argument or as an exact file path. Others required users to select a file from the file manager.

Famous quotes containing the word file:

A common and natural result of an undue respect for law is, that you may see a file of soldiers, colonel, captain, corporal, privates, powder-monkeys, and all, marching in admirable order over hill and dale to the wars, against their wills, ay, against their common sense and consciences, which makes it very steep marching indeed, and produces a palpitation of the heart.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
