South Australia

The Yorke Peninsula Field Days held every second year at Paskeville are the oldest field days in Australia (dating from 1895) and the largest in South Australia.

Other field days are held at Barmera in the Riverland (annually since 1958), Cleve on the Eyre Peninsula and Lucindale in the south east of the state.

Famous quotes containing the words south and/or australia:

In the far South the sun of autumn is passing
Like Walt Whitman walking along a ruddy shore.
He is singing and chanting the things that are part of him,
The worlds that were and will be, death and day.
Nothing is final, he chants. No man shall see the end.
His beard is of fire and his staff is a leaping flame.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

It is very considerably smaller than Australia and British Somaliland put together. As things stand at present there is nothing much the Texans can do about this, and ... they are inclined to shy away from the subject in ordinary conversation, muttering defensively about the size of oranges.
Alex Atkinson, British humor writer. repr. In Present Laughter, ed. Alan Coren (1982)
