FIA Super Licence - Cost of Licence

Cost of Licence

The FIA makes a profit in the business of Super Licence by making it mandatory for the Super Licence holder to pay a certain amount to the FIA as a licence fee, per year. The cost of a super-licence rose by an average £8,700 in 2009. There is an extra charge of € 2,100 per point earned in 2008, up from €447 per point in 2007. In 2010, Lewis Hamilton paid £242,000 for his licence for the season. The idea of reducing the licence cost is a turnaround for FIA president Max Mosley who, in February, wrote to Formula 1 drivers suggesting that they "race elsewhere if they were unable to pay for their super-licences." After a meeting on this subject, the FIA issued the this statement: "Following a very positive meeting between FIA President Max Mosley and representatives of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA), a proposal will be made to the World Motor Sport Council to revise super-licence fees for drivers in the 2010 championship".

Famous quotes containing the words cost of and/or cost:

To call a posit a posit is not to patronize it. A posit can be unavoidable except at the cost of other no less artificial expedients. Everything to which we concede existence is a posit from the standpoint of a description of the theory-building process, and simultaneously real from the standpoint of the theory that is being built.
Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)

If music in general is an imitation of history, opera in particular is an imitation of human willfulness; it is rooted in the fact that we not only have feelings but insist upon having them at whatever cost to ourselves.... The quality common to all the great operatic roles, e.g., Don Giovanni, Norma, Lucia, Tristan, Isolde, Brünnhilde, is that each of them is a passionate and willful state of being. In real life they would all be bores, even Don Giovanni.
