Inland Port in Tripura
Sabroom in South Tripura, in India, is only 18–20 km from Bay of Bengal, but it is a virtually a land locked territory. There is a thinking that an inland harbour could be built at Sabroom, connected to the sea through a canal, if Bangladesh allows it. The construction of such a harbour could reduce considerably the cost of transportation of goods from the rest of India to Tripura and the north-east of India. However, it is all at the thinking stage and no proposal have been tabled.

Famous quotes containing the words inland and/or port:
“So far as inland discovery was concerned, the adventurous spirit of the English was that of sailors who land but for a day, and their enterprise the enterprise of traders.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weatherd every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.”
—Walt Whitman (18191892)
