Fender Wide Range - Sound

Sound

Original "Wide Range" pickups are described as sounding "fat" but with a noticeable improvement in clarity and detail over Gibson humbuckers. Combined with a bridge single coil pickup on a Telecaster it gives a smooth, warm yet biting sound. Famous users include Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, Graham Coxon of Blur, Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit/Black Light Burns, Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes, Ryan Adams, Win Butler of Arcade Fire, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Lúcio Maia of Nação Zumbi, Roy Buchanan, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Thom Yorke, Kim Ralls of Kaos Engyn and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead as well as Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth's modified "Jazzblasters" which featured "wide range" pickups on modified Fender Jazzmaster guitars.

Famous quotes containing the word sound:

Everywhere “good men” sound a retreat, and the word has gone forth to fall back on innocence. Fall forward rather on to whatever there is there.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Only the sound remains,
the distant thump of the good elephants,
the voice of the ancient lions
    and how the bells
    trembled for the flying man.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Monte Beragon: When I’m close to you like this, there’s a sound in the air like the beating of wings. Do you know what that is?
    Mildred Pierce: No, what?
Monte Beragon: My heart, beating like a schoolboy’s.
Mildred Pierce: Is it? I thought it was mine.
    Ranald MacDougall (1915–1973)
