Federation of Liberal Democrats

The Federation of Liberal Democrats (Federazione dei Liberaldemocratici, FLD) is a social-liberal party in Italy, based in Milan. Its leader and founder is Marco Marsili, a former member of the Federation of Greens, party he left over disagreements with leader Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio.

The party was originally founded in October 2003 by Marsili as a citizens' list named Liberaldemocratici – Lista per Milano Città Metropolitana. After having formed an alliance with the Pact of Liberal Democrats, FLD joined Italy of Values for the 2006 general election. Although Marsili was a top-list candidate in Milan, he failed to get elected. In May 2006 FLD formed a provisional alliance with The Italian Socialists, and finally took part of the foundation of the Citizens' Political Movement in September 2007. Marsili was suddenly appointed by Fernando Rossi national coordinator of the new party.

Famous quotes containing the words federation of, federation, liberal and/or democrats:

Women realize that we are living in an ungoverned world. At heart we are all pacifists. We should love to talk it over with the war-makers, but they would not understand. Words are so inadequate, and we realize that the hatred must kill itself; so we give our men gladly, unselfishly, proudly, patriotically, since the world chooses to settle its disputes in the old barbarous way.

Since he hath got the jewel that I loved,
And that which you did swear to keep for me,
I will become as liberal as you,
I’ll not deny him anything I have,
No, not my body nor my husband’s bed.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Do you know I believe that [William Jennings] Bryan will force his nomination on the Democrats again. I believe he will either do this by advocating Prohibition, or else he will run on a Prohibition platform independent of the Democrats. But you will see that the year before the election he will organize a mammoth lecture tour and will make Prohibition the leading note of every address.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
