Schism in LGBT Sports Communities Over Gay Games VII

In 2001, the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) awarded the seventh edition of the Gay Games to Montréal, Quebec, Canada for 2006, but the FGG removed its sanction in late 2003 after differences arose between it and the Montréal 2006 organizing committee. This resulted in Montreal setting up the World Outgames, and forming GLISA as its sanctioning body. A new bidding process was set up, and Chicago, Illinois, USA was selected to host the 2006 Games. See the Schism in LGBT sports communities over Gay Games VII section of the Gay Games article.

    “Summer, you are the eucharist of death;
    Partake of you and never again
    Will midnight foot it steeply into dawn,

    Nor the praised schism be of year split off year....”
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

    Falling in love is the right adventure for those who dislike sports and travel.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

    Culture is the name for what people are interested in, their thoughts, their models, the books they read and the speeches they hear, their table-talk, gossip, controversies, historical sense and scientific training, the values they appreciate, the quality of life they admire. All communities have a culture. It is the climate of their civilization.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)

    Good luck is the gayest of all gay girls;
    Long in one place, she will not stay:
    John Milton Hay (1838–1905)

    In the past, it seemed to make sense for a sportswriter on sabbatical from the playpen to attend the quadrennial hawgkilling when Presidential candidates are chosen, to observe and report upon politicians at play. After all, national conventions are games of a sort, and sports offers few spectacles richer in low comedy.
    Walter Wellesley (Red)

    I have loved justice and hated iniquity: therefore I die in exile.
    —Pope Gregory VII (c. 1020–1085)
