Fashion Week Cleveland is an annual fashion industry event held in Cleveland, Ohio which began in 2002. It is one of fourteen internationally-recognized fashion week events in North America. Fashion Week Cleveland is held during the first week of May.
The event is the third-largest fashion show of its kind in the United States behind only New York Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week. As such, this event is recognized as the showcase for emerging American fashion designers. Designers such as MoMo Falana (designer for Sex and the City) and Wendy Pepper have been featured in past events.
Famous quotes containing the words fashion, week and/or cleveland:
“Fashion is primitive in its insistence on exhibitionism, which withers in isolation. The catwalk fashion show with its incandescent hype is its apotheosis. A ritualized gathering of connoiseurs and the spoilt at a spotlit parade of snazzy pulchritude, it is an industrialized version of the pagan festivals of renewal. At the end of each seasonal display, a priesthood is enjoined to carry news of the omens to the masses.”
—Stephen Bayley (b. 1951)
“[When asked: If women voted, would they not have to sit on juries?:] Many women would be glad of a chance to sit on anything. There are women who stand up and wash six days in the week at 75 cents a day who would like to take a vacation and sit on a jury at $1.50.”
—Anna Howard Shaw (18471919)
“I am no Poet here; my pen s the spout,
Where the rain water of my eyes run out,
In pity of that name, whose fate wee see
Thus copied out in griefs Hydrography:
The Muses are not Mer-maids, though upon
His death the Ocean might turn Helicon”
—John Cleveland (16131658)
