Reign
In 1488 Shaykh Haydar of Safaviyya moved through Shirvan towards Derbend, supposedly to wage jihad against Circassians, but instead laid siege to Derbent. Farrukh Yassar was not able to mount defense and asked Sultan Yagub of Kara Koyunlu to the rescue. United forces were able to defeat Safavid kizilbash forces and Shaykh Haydar was murdered.
Shah Ismail I was able to take revenge 12 years later where his force met Farrukh Yassar with a cavalry force of 20,000 near castly of Gulistan in Shamakha. Farrukh Yassar was killed with most of Shirvan nobility. His son Ibrahim Shaykhshah ruled Shirvan from 1502 to 1524.

“I am monarch of all I survey;
My right there is none to dispute;
From the center all round to the sea
I am lord of the fowl and the brute.
O Solitude! where are the charms
That sages have seen in thy face?
Better dwell in the midst of alarms,
Than reign in this horrible place.”
—William Cowper (17311800)
