Farningham Road Railway Station - Crime

Crime

The station is the second most vandalised station (2005/06) according to British Transport Police.

The station is non-smoking, as are all of Southeastern's trains and stations. On 6 August 2008 two youths threw a woman onto the rail tracks after she had asked them to stop smoking. Despite CCTV coverage of the station, police initially struggled to identify the assailants; however after further analysis two suspect were arrested almost a week later. One was released without charge, while another, was charged with Grievous bodily harm. Ionel Rapisca pleaded not guilty, but was found guilty and sentenced for four years; an appeal was unsuccessful.

Famous quotes containing the word crime:

His [O.J. Simpson’s] supporters lined the freeway to cheer him on Friday and commentators talked about his tragedy. Did those people see the photographs of the crime scene and the great blackening pools of blood seeping into the sidewalk? Did battered women watch all this on television and realize more vividly than ever before that their lives were cheap and their pain inconsequential?
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

A bad end, a sad end, was the last end of Mieze. And why, why, why? What crime had she committed? She came from Bernau into the whirl of Berlin, she was not an innocent girl, certainly not, but her love for him was pure and steadfast; he was her man and she took care of him like a child. She was struck down because she happened by chance to encounter this man; such is life, it’s really inconceivable.
    Alfred Döblin (1878–1957)

There is no scandal like rags, nor any crime so shameful as poverty.
    George Farquhar (1678–1707)
