Farm To Market Road 685 - History

History

FM 685 was designated in Williamson County in 1946, running from US 79 at Hutto southward to the Travis County line. The designation was extended into Travis County and Pflugerville in 1952, to its current southern terminus at FM 1825.

When the SH 130 toll road was constructed, the segment between Pflugerville and Hutto used the right-of-way of FM 685. The FM 685 designation was subsequently applied to the frontage roads of the toll road.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Postmodernism is, almost by definition, a transitional cusp of social, cultural, economic and ideological history when modernism’s high-minded principles and preoccupations have ceased to function, but before they have been replaced with a totally new system of values. It represents a moment of suspension before the batteries are recharged for the new millennium, an acknowledgment that preceding the future is a strange and hybrid interregnum that might be called the last gasp of the past.
Gilbert Adair, British author, critic. Sunday Times: Books (London, April 21, 1991)

... the history of the race, from infancy through its stages of barbarism, heathenism, civilization, and Christianity, is a process of suffering, as the lower principles of humanity are gradually subjected to the higher.
    Catherine E. Beecher (1800–1878)

Modern Western thought will pass into history and be incorporated in it, will have its influence and its place, just as our body will pass into the composition of grass, of sheep, of cutlets, and of men. We do not like that kind of immortality, but what is to be done about it?
    Alexander Herzen (1812–1870)
