Census Returns For England & Wales

The 1841 to 1901 census returns for England & Wales could be consulted at the FRC and were accessed mainly online by searching for individuals by name. The 1841 to 1891 census returns were also available on microfilm, while the 1901 census was also available on microfiche. A selection of street indexes and other search aids were also available.

Before the FRC opened, the census microfilms were at the Public Record Office (now part of The National Archives) in Chancery Lane for some years, after having been moved from the Land Registry building, Portugal Street, London WC2A, where they had been since at least the early 1980s.

Famous quotes containing the words returns, england and/or wales:

If Thought is capable of being classed with Electricity, or Will with chemical affinity, as a mode of motion, it seems necessary to fall at once under the second law of thermodynamics as one of the energies which most easily degrades itself, and, if not carefully guarded, returns bodily to the cheaper form called Heat. Of all possible theories, this is likely to prove the most fatal to Professors of History.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

It’s easy to understand why the most beautiful poems about England in the spring were written by poets living in Italy at the time.
    Philip Dunne (1908–1992)

I just come and talk to the plants, really—very important to talk to them, they respond I find.
Charles, Prince Of Wales (b. 1948)
