Family Dollar

Family Dollar (NYSE: FDO) is a regional chain of variety stores in the United States. It opened in 1959 and operates approximately 7,100 stores in 45 states and the District of Columbia. It is headquartered in Matthews, North Carolina.

Family Dollar is not a true "dollar store" in the strict sense; while there are many items available for $1, there are other price points as well. However, approximately 90% of the products cost less than $10. With most locations set up like a typical supermarket, the chain deals in food items, clothing and assorted household products.

Some, but not all, Family Dollar stores now accept credit cards, as well as debit cards and the cash benefit from EBT (food stamp) cards.

Famous quotes containing the words family and/or dollar:

The intent of matrimony, is not for man and wife to be always taken up with each other, but jointly to discharge the duties of civil society, to govern their family with prudence, and educate their children with discretion.

Johnny Clay: You like money. You got a great big dollar sign there where most women have a heart. So play it smart. Stay in character and you’ll have money. Plenty of it. George’ll have it and he’ll blow it on you. Probably buy himself a five-cent cigar.
Sherry Peatty: You don’t know me very well, Johnny. I wouldn’t think of letting George throw his money away on cigars.
