Fairfax High School (Los Angeles) - Greenway Arts Alliance

Greenway Arts Alliance

Fairfax High School is home to the Greenway Arts Alliance, which operates the Greenway Court Theater, a 99-seat Equity-waver playhouse, and provides arts educational programs, mentoring, and employment opportunities to Fairfax students.

In March 1998, the Greenway Arts Alliance hosted the first Melrose Trading Post. This chic flea market has become a weekly event, held every Sunday in the school parking lot at the corner of Melrose Avenue and Fairfax Avenue. With revenue from entry and vendor fees, the Melrose Trading Post is the most successful ongoing fundraiser in the history of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Famous quotes containing the words arts and/or alliance:

No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

In short, no association or alliance can be happy or stable without me. People can’t long tolerate a ruler, nor can a master his servant, a maid her mistress, a teacher his pupil, a friend his friend nor a wife her husband, a landlord his tenant, a soldier his comrade nor a party-goer his companion, unless they sometimes have illusions about each other, make use of flattery, and have the sense to turn a blind eye and sweeten life for themselves with the honey of folly.
    Desiderius Erasmus (c. 1466–1536)
