Fair Deal - Legislation and Programs

Legislation and Programs

Note: This listing contains reforms drawn up by the Truman Administration together with reforms drawn up by individual Congressmen. The latter have been included because it is arguable that the progressive nature of these reforms (such as the Water Pollution Law, which was partly a Republican initiative) was compatible with the liberalism of the Fair Deal.

Famous quotes containing the words legislation and, legislation and/or programs:

Legislation and adjudication must follow, and conform to, the progress of society.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

No legislation can suppress nature; all life rushes to reproduction; our procreative faculties are matured early, while passion is strong, and judgment and self-restraint weak. We cannot alter this, but we can alter what is conventional. We can refuse to brand an act of nature as a crime, and to impute to vice what is due to ignorance.
    Tennessee Claflin (1846–1923)

Will TV kill the theater? If the programs I have seen, save for “Kukla, Fran and Ollie,” the ball games and the fights, are any criterion, the theater need not wake up in a cold sweat.
    Tallulah Bankhead (1903–1968)
