Awards and Recognition

Several residents, fellows, and alumni have been recognized through awards and prize money for projects developed at Eyebeam.

  • Eric Zimmerman: Nominated for the 2001 Webby Award for Games for “SiSSYFiGHT Sissyfight
  • Alex Galloway: Won the 2002 Ars Electronica Golden Nica for Net Vision/Net Excellence for “Carnivore”
  • Yuri Gitman and Carlos J. Gomez de Llarena: Won the 2003 Golden Nica for Net Vision/Net Excellence for “Noderunner”
  • Marie Sester: Won the 2004 Webby Award for Net Art for “ACCESS”
  • Ted Southern: Awarded in the 2009 NASA Centennial Challenge for his astronaut glove prototype
  • Steve Lambert (with members of Because We Want It): Received the 2009 Ars Electronica Award of Distinction for Hybrid Art
  • Zachary Lieberman, Evan Roth, James Powderly, Theo Watson, Chris Sugrue, and Tempt1: Won the 2010 Golden Nica for Interactive Art for “The Eyewriter”
  • Marina Zurkow: Awarded a 2011 Guggenheim Fellowship for “Mesocosm”
  • Jordan Crandall: Won the 2011 Villem Flusser Theory Award at Transmediale
  • Evan Roth: Won the 2011 Open Web Award at Transmediale for “Graffiti Analysis/Graffiti Markup Language”
  • Ayah Bdeir: "littleBits" acquired by MoMA as part of the museum's permanent collection ; received a 2011 TED Fellowship
  • Mary Mattingly: Received a 2011 Harpo Foundation Grant
  • Nova Jiang: Received an Honorary Mention at the 2012 Prix Ars Electronica
