Evidence-based legislation (EBL) calls for the use of the best available scientific evidence and systematically collected data, when available, by legislatures as a basis for their formulation and writing of law. Drawn from the definition of "evidence-based medicine" which is "the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients", this concept calls upon legislative bodies to inform their legislation with the best available scientific and systematically collected evidence available.

Famous quotes containing the word legislation:
“Strictly speaking, one cannot legislate love, but what one can do is legislate fairness and justice. If legislation does not prohibit our living side by side, sooner or later your child will fall on the pavement and Ill be the one to pick her up. Or one of my children will not be able to get into the house and youll have to say, Stop here until your mom comes here. Legislation affords us the chance to see if we might love each other.”
—Maya Angelou (b. 1928)
