European Water Vole - Breeding

Breeding

The mating period lasts from March into late autumn. The female vole's pregnancy lasts for approximately 21 days. Up to 8 baby voles can be born, each weighing around 10 grams (0.4 oz). The young voles open their eyes three days after their birth. They are half the size of a full grown water vole by the time they are weaned.

Famous quotes containing the word breeding:

Courtesy is breeding. Breeding is an excellent thing. Always remember that.
    Lillian Hellman (1905–1984)

Good breeding and good nature do incline us rather to help and raise people up to ourselves, than to mortify and depress them, and, in truth, our own private interest concurs in it, as it is making ourselves so many friends, instead of so many enemies.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

Good breeding ... differs, if at all, from high breeding only as it gracefully remembers the rights of others, rather than gracefully insists on its own rights.
    Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881)
