The European Independent Institute is a Dutch policy institute.
It was founded by Sander Boon and Eline van den Broek, former members of the Edmund Burke Foundation. The institute focuses on free markets, and is more libertarian than the conservative Edmund Burke Foundation.
The current status of the think tank is unknown. Sander Boon was the twelfth-ranked candidate on the Eén NL party list in the 2006 Dutch general election. Van den Broek recently started the Quid Novi project.
Famous quotes containing the words european, independent and/or institute:
“In European thought in general, as contrasted with American, vigor, life and originality have a kind of easy, professional utterance. Americanon the other hand, is expressed in an eager amateurish way. A European gives a sense of scope, of survey, of consideration. An American is strained, sensational. One is artistic gold; the other is bullion.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“The dignity and stability of government in all its branches, the morals of the people, and every blessing of society, depend so much upon an upright and skilful administration of justice, that the judicial power ought to be distinct from both the legislative and executive, and independent upon both, that so it may be a check upon both, as both should be checks upon that.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“Whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles & organising its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
