European Central Bank Headquarters

The European Central Bank Headquarters is a building complex under construction in the Ostend district of Frankfurt, Germany. It includes the existing Großmarkthalle, a new 185/165-metre-twin-skyscraper and a new low-rise building to connect the two. Located east of the city centre it will house the new headquarters for the European Central Bank (ECB). It is expected to be completed in 2014.

The ECB's headquarters is legally required by the Treaties of the European Union to lie within the city limits of Frankfurt, the largest financial centre in the Eurozone. The ECB currently resides in the Eurotower and, due to lack of office space there, in two other high-rise buildings (Eurotheum and Neue Mainzer Straße 32-36) in the city centre of Frankfurt.

Famous quotes containing the words european, central, bank and/or headquarters:

What is the first thing that savage tribes accept from Europeans nowadays? Brandy and Christianity, the European narcotics.—And what is it that most rapidly leads to their destruction?—The European narcotics.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

In inner-party politics, these methods lead, as we shall yet see, to this: the party organization substitutes itself for the party, the central committee substitutes itself for the organization, and, finally, a “dictator” substitutes himself for the central committee.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

People get a bad impression of it by continually trying to treat it as if it was a bank clerk, who ought to be on time on Tuesday next, instead of philosophically seeing it as a painter, who may do anything so long as you don’t try to predict what.
    Katharine Whitehorn (b. 1926)

What does headquarters think these guys came over here for, a sewing circle? They go up playing for keeps. Cops and robbers with rocks in the snowballs. Brass knuckles and lead pipes and a roughneck conviction they can lick any man in the world.
    Dalton Trumbo (1905–1976)
