The Eucumbene River rises in the northern part of the Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, and flows south. Its flow is blocked by Eucumbene Dam, the largest dam in the Snowy Mountains Scheme. The river valley continues from the dam wall to its junction with the Snowy River which is now part of Lake Jindabyne.
In Spring the source of water for this river is snow melt around Kiandra - an abandoned gold mining town from the 19th century. The river source is protected within the Kosciuszko National Park. There is little disturbance from man today, apart from the Snowy Mountains Highway which runs through its catchment.

Famous quotes containing the word river:
“It is from quiet places like this all over the world that the forces accumulate which presently will overbear any attempt to accomplish evil on a large scale. Like the rivulets gathering into the river, and the river into the seas, there come from communities like this streams that fertilize the consciences of men, and it is the conscience of the world that we are trying to place upon the throne which others would usurp.”
—Woodrow Wilson (18561924)
