Eucalyptus Morrisbyi - Management

Management

There are a number of management issues concerned with Eucalpytus morrisbyi due to its rarity. E. morrisbyi is classed as endangered by both the Commonwealth Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999 and the Tasmanian Threatened Species Protection Act 1995. The two natural populations are assumed to be a remnant of a once larger range. The reduction in range can largely be put down to land clearing after the arrival of Europeans to Tasmania.

“This we take it is the grand characteristic of our age. By our skill in Mechanism, it has come to pass, that in the management of external things we excel all other ages; while in whatever respects the pure moral nature, in true dignity of soul and character, we are perhaps inferior to most civilised ages.”
    —Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881)
