Eu took a keen interest in horse-racing, motoring and rifle-shooting. He imported the first motor car into Perak.
Eu was also the pioneer of Singapore to bring in calf racing. Calf racing evolves around two men and two calfs. The men then will have to finally swim to land and run back to the starting point, the first becoming the winner.

Famous quotes containing the word sports:
“There be some sports are painful, and their labor
Delight in them sets off. Some kinds of baseness
Are nobly undergone, and most poor matters
Point to rich ends.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“In the past, it seemed to make sense for a sportswriter on sabbatical from the playpen to attend the quadrennial hawgkilling when Presidential candidates are chosen, to observe and report upon politicians at play. After all, national conventions are games of a sort, and sports offers few spectacles richer in low comedy.”
—Walter Wellesley (Red)
“In the end, I think you really only get as far as youre allowed to get.”
—Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 87 (June 17, 1991)
