The population of Azad Kashmir is composed of many communities and tribes. According to the 1998 Census of Pakistan, the total population of Azad Kashmir was 3,271,000.

Many of these groups now live in England, where they form sub-groups of the British Pakistani community. Kashmiris living in the United Kingdom number well over 500,000.
