Ethnic Groups In London

London, England, United Kingdom (population 8,174,100 in 2011) is one of the most ethnically diverse cities on earth.

As of 2007, there are over 300 languages spoken in it and more than 50 non-indigenous communities with a population of more than 10,000.

According to the 2011 Census, 44.9% of London's residents are White British. London is the only place in the United Kingdom in which White Britons comprise less than half of the total population. 37% of the population were born outside the UK. The censuses can underestimate ethnic groups with illegal immigrants not being accounted for and ethnic groups being less likely to take part.

Famous quotes containing the words ethnic, groups and/or london:

Motherhood is the second oldest profession in the world. It never questions age, height, religious preference, health, political affiliation, citizenship, morality, ethnic background, marital status, economic level, convenience, or previous experience.
    Erma Bombeck (20th century)

Belonging to a group can provide the child with a variety of resources that an individual friendship often cannot—a sense of collective participation, experience with organizational roles, and group support in the enterprise of growing up. Groups also pose for the child some of the most acute problems of social life—of inclusion and exclusion, conformity and independence.
    Zick Rubin (20th century)

Parental attitudes have greater correlation with pupil achievement than material home circumstances or variations in school and classroom organization, instructional materials, and particular teaching practices.
—Children and Their Primary Schools, vol. 1, ch. 3, Central Advisory Council for Education, London (1967)
