Construction
The construction cost was $23 million pesos when the stadium was completed in 1967. The original plan was to build the staidum with a 90,000 capacity; however, it had to be reduced due to economic problems. After the 1986 FIFA World Cup, the recognized capacity was 52,000. Later, the adjustments were made for greater comfort and security of the spectators. The staidum present capacity is 42,000.
