Ernest Tyldesley

(George) Ernest Tyldesley (5 February 1889, Worsley, Lancashire, England – 5 May 1962, Rhos-on-Sea, Denbighshire, Wales) was an England cricketer. The younger brother of Johnny Tyldesley and the leading batsman for Lancashire. He remains Lancashire's most prolific run-getter of all time. Tyldesley never went on an Ashes tour and played only four times in a home Ashes Test, but in 1921 he did very well in the last two games, scoring 78 at Old Trafford.

Famous quotes containing the word ernest:

    O, there’s a wind a-blowing, a-blowing from the west,
And that of all the winds is the one I like the best,
For it blows at our backs, and it shakes our pennon free,
And it soon will blow us home to the old countrie.
    —William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)
