Werth is co-director and a producer of The Third Jihad (2009), a documentary concerning radical Islam's operations inside Western societies. The film's narrator is Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a Muslim-American and former physician to the US Congress who is driven by concern about the growth of radical Islam in America. Fox News Channel's Hannity & Colmes aired a segment about the documentary. US Senator Jon Kyl said, "The Third Jihad alerts Americans to the dangers of Islamic radicalization in our own communities."
After a ten city sneak preview screening of The Third Jihad in 2008, Muslim groups and a handful of liberal activists waged a blog campaign to discredit the filmmakers.
The film premiered in 2009 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., the Directors Guild in New York City, and the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. It was also screened at the Library of Congress for Members of Congress. The film aired on cable TV on the American Life Network in 2009 and 2010.
Werth and the other filmmakers obtained interviews with US-based radical Islamists as well as decision-makers like Senator Joseph Lieberman, Rudolph Giuliani, Clinton Administration CIA director Jim Woolsey, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, and former US Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.
Many politicians and experts are publicly supporting the controversial documentary. See this webpage.
“It is imperative that The Third Jihad reaches a mass audience in the U.S. so that the urgency of this threat becomes clear to the American public," declared US Rep. Ros-Lehtinen, the ranking Republican on the House foreign relations committee. She attended a private screening with Texas Gov. Rick Perry in August 2009
