Biological Effects
Generally, EETs cause:
- Calcium release from intracellular stores
- Increased sodium-hydrogen antiporter activity
- Increased cell proliferation
- Decreased cyclooxygenase activity
Other effects are specific to certain cells or locations:
- EETs are cardioprotective after ischemic heart attack and reperfusion.
- They act in the corpus cavernosum to maintain penile erection.
- Specific epoxidation of EET sites produces endogenous PPARα agonists.
- Decreased release of somatostatin, insulin and glucagon from endocrine cells.
- Vasodilation and angiogenesis in blood vessels.
- Increased risk of tumor adhesion on endothelial cells
- Decreased platelet aggregation

Famous quotes containing the words biological and/or effects:
“If the most significant characteristic of man is the complex of biological needs he shares with all members of his species, then the best lives for the writer to observe are those in which the role of natural necessity is clearest, namely, the lives of the very poor.”
—W.H. (Wystan Hugh)
“to become a pimp
Or deal in fake jewelry or ruin a fine tenor voice
For effects that bring down the house could happen to all
But the best and the worst of us . . .”
—W.H. (Wystan Hugh)
