The Episcopal Diocese of Michigan is the Episcopal diocese in the southeast part of Michigan.
The diocese traces its roots to the founding of St. Paul's, Detroit in 1824. It became a diocese of the Episcopal Church in 1836, one year before the State of Michigan entered the Union. It covered the whole state. In 1875 the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan was split off and in 1994 the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Michigan was created from the northern two-thirds of its then remaining territory.
St. Paul's, Detroit became the cathedral of the diocese in 1912.
The current bishop is the Right Reverend Wendell Gibbs, one of only a few African-American bishops in the Episcopal Church. Its first bishop was Samuel Allen McCoskry, who served 1836-1878.
