Enrique Tarigo - Vice President of Uruguay

Vice President of Uruguay

He was Vice President of Uruguay from 1985 to 1990, in the first period of democratic government after the civilian-military administration of 1973-1985, serving under President Julio MarĂa Sanguinetti. A notable feature of his appointment to office was that the Vice Presidency had been vacant since the resignation of Vice President Jorge Sapelli in 1973.

Tarigo was one of the most important persons in the movement to obtain the exit of the civilian-military government.

Famous quotes containing the words vice and/or president:

Keep your hands clean and pure from the infamous vice of corruption, a vice so infamous that it degrades even the other vices that may accompany it. Accept no present whatever; let your character in that respect be transparent and without the least speck, for as avarice is the vilest and dirtiest vice in private, corruption is so in public life.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

... a friend told me that she had read of a woman who had knitted a wash rag for President Wilson. She was eighty years old and her friends thought it remarkable that she could knit a wash rag! I thought that if a woman of eighty could knit a wash rage for a Democratic President it behooved one of ninety-six to make something more than a wash rag for a Republican President.
    Maria D. Brown (1827–1927)
