Position of The Church
After the murder of Angelelli, the Catholic Church officially accepted the car accident story, but some of its members (as mentioned above) spoke against it. L'Osservatore Romano reported his death as "a strange accident", and Juan Carlos Aramburu denied it was a crime.
Ten years later, even after the sentence passed by Judge Morales in La Rioja, the hierarchy of the Church continued to avoid any references to murder. In 2001, a declaration emitted by the Argentine Episcopal Conference stated, "Death found him while fulfilling a difficult mission, accompany the communities hurt by the murder of their shepherds."

Famous quotes containing the words position of, position and/or church:
“I believe that all women of working ages and physical capacity, regardless of income, should be expected to earn their livings either in or out of the home. Until this attitude prevails I believe the position of women will be uncertain and undignified, in spite of poetic rhapsodies to the contrary.”
—Mary Barnett Gilson (1877?)
“The teacher must derive not only the capacity, but the desire, to observe natural phenomena. In our system, she must become a passive, much more than an active, influence, and her passivity shall be composed of anxious scientific curiosity and of absolute respect for the phenomenon which she wishes to observe. The teacher must understand and feel her position of observer: the activity must lie in the phenomenon.”
—Maria Montessori (18701952)
“The church is precisely that against which Jesus preachedand against which he taught his disciples to fight.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
