Emilio Mola - Death

Death

Mola died on June 3, 1937, when the aircraft in which he was travelling crashed in bad weather while returning to Vitoria. The deaths of Sanjurjo and Mola left Franco as the preeminent leader of the Nationalist cause. This led to the suspicion that Franco contributed in some way to the deaths of his two rivals, but no evidence has been produced. Generalissimo Franco as Head of the Spanish State granted him the posthumous title of Duke of Mola, Grandee of Spain, and the title was immediately succeeded by his son, Don Emilio Mola y Bascón.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

Let those who desire a secure homeland conquer it. Let those who do not conquer it live under the whip and in exile, watched over like wild animals, cast from one country to another, concealing the death of their souls with a beggar’s smile from the scorn of free men.
    José Martí (1853–1895)

Disease generally begins that equality which death completes.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

Could any death be so horrible as birth? Or any decrepitude so awful as childhood in a happy united God-fearing family?
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)
