Elizabeth Wein (pronounced WEEN) (born October 2, 1964) is an American author (but a resident of Scotland) of historical fiction for young adults. Her first five books feature a version of the King Arthur stories which moves the narrative to the kingdom of Aksum in 6th century Ethiopia. The stories focus on her interpretation of Medraut (Mordred) and his half-Aksumite, half-British son Telemakos.
Wein's most recent novel, Code Name Verity, is a World War II thriller and celebration of friendship between the main characters, a transport pilot and a Resistance spy - both women working for the British war effort.
Wein's short stories have been published in collections edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, and Sharyn November.
