Views On HIV/AIDS
In the view of the Perth Group, consisting of Papadopulos-Eleopulos and a colleague, the scientific community has failed to prove:
- That HIV exists as a unique, exogenously acquired retrovirus.
- That HIV antibody tests are specific for HIV infection.
- That HIV causes acquired immune deficiency (destruction of T helper cells, known as AID) or that AID leads to the development of the clinical syndrome AIDS.
- That the HIV genome (RNA or DNA) originates in a unique, exogenously acquired infectious retroviral particle.
- That HIV/AIDS is infectious, either by blood, blood products or sexual intercourse.
- That a retrovirus HIV may be transmitted from mother to child or that this transmission may be inhibited with AZT or nevirapine.
The Perth Group's speculation is completely rejected by the scientific community as HIV has been adequately isolated and shown to be the cause of AIDS.

Famous quotes containing the words views and/or aids:
“It is even more grim and wild than you had anticipated, a damp and intricate wilderness, in the spring everywhere wet and miry. The aspect of the country, indeed, is universally stern and savage, excepting the distant views of the forest from hills, and the lake prospects, which are mild and civilizing in a degree.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Both the Moral Majority, who are recycling medieval language to explain AIDS, and those ultra-leftists who attribute AIDS to some sort of conspiracy, have a clearly political analysis of the epidemic. But even if one attributes its cause to a microorganism rather than the wrath of God, or the workings of the CIA, it is clear that the way in which AIDS has been perceived, conceptualized, imagined, researched and financed makes this the most political of diseases.”
—Dennis Altman (b. 1943)
