El Nacional (Caracas) - Editorial Position and Management

Editorial Position and Management

Historically, the newspaper received criticism by the governments under the AD and COPEI parties for it had tended to support the political beliefs of the moderate left and the middle class. At the end of the 20th century it changed from a family-managed company to a communications corporation, which has influenced its political stance.

There is also a digital edition of El Nacional to which users can subscribe for an annual fee; it was published for the first time in 1996.

Under the leadership of Manuel Sucre, who joined the company in the year 2000 after serving as CFO for the food-conglomerate Mavesa, El Nacional, along with other daily newspapers of the region, El Tiempo of Colombia, El Mercurio of Chile and La Nación of Argentina, created the Daily Group of America (GDA).

In late 2007 editor and proprietor Miguel Henrique Otero founded the Movimiento 2D opposition movement, which supported the opposition electoral coalition Mesa de la Unidad Democrática in the September 2010 parliamentary election.

Famous quotes containing the words editorial, position and/or management:

I have been in the editorial business going on fourteen years, and it is the first time I ever heard of a man’s having to know anything in order to edit a newspaper.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

Unfortunately, life may sometimes seem unfair to middle children, some of whom feel like an afterthought to a brilliant older sibling and unable to captivate the family’s attention like the darling baby. Yet the middle position offers great training for the real world of lowered expectations, negotiation, and compromise. Middle children who often must break the mold set by an older sibling may thereby learn to challenge family values and seek their own identity.
    Marianne E. Neifert (20th century)

The management of fertility is one of the most important functions of adulthood.
    Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
