Ein Feldlager in Schlesien - Synopsis

Synopsis

Time: The Third Silesian War, a part of the larger Seven Years' War.
Place: Silesia

King Frederick, fleeing from his enemies, meets the flute-player Conrad, who is in love with the gypsy Vielka. With the assistance of the retired officer Saldorf and his daughter Therese, Conrad is passed off as the King and vice-versa. The king's (real-life) ability as a flute-player assists this. In the Prussian camp, Saldorf and Conrad are acclaimed for their services to the King. Vielka suggests to Conrad that he asks the King for pardon (which is granted) to the Saldorf's falsely-accused son. Vielka can now marry Conrad, and prophesies the future greatness of Prussia.
