Methods of Inducing The Experience

Many methods, practices, or experiences may induce this state, including prayer, sleep deprivation, fasting, meditation practice, ingestion of psychedelic substances, or the use of an isolation tank. Famous quotes containing the words methods of, methods and/or experience:

All men are equally proud. The only difference is that not all take the same methods of showing it.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

A writer who writes, “I am alone” ... can be considered rather comical. It is comical for a man to recognize his solitude by addressing a reader and by using methods that prevent the individual from being alone. The word alone is just as general as the word bread. To pronounce it is to summon to oneself the presence of everything the word excludes.
    Maurice Blanchot (b. 1907)

I keep having the same experience and keep resisting it every time. I do not want to believe it although it is palpable: the great majority of people lacks an intellectual conscience. Indeed, it has often seemed to me as if anyone calling for an intellectual conscience were as lonely in the most densely populated cities as if he were in a desert.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
