Marching Band
The Marcus Marching Band is directed by Ms. Amanda Drinkwater.
In 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 the Marcus Marching Band placed first at the University Interscholastic League State Marching Contest. They have competed at state five times now; the first being in 2004 when they placed 12th. The Marcus Band is the only band in LISD to ever win a state title. In 2007 the Marcus Band received first place at the Bands of America Regional in Arlington, Texas, as well as the Bands of America Super Regional in San Antonio, with their show 'Botanika - A Garden Fantasy', which set the record for the highest score at a Super Regional event (96.20). In 2010, they again won The San Antonio Super Regional with their show "Illuminaries" with a total score of 93.70, and in 2012, again won The San Antonio Super Regional with their show "Gilded Melodies BWV 2012" with a total score of 96.10, only 0.1 points behind their previous record. In 2011 the Marcus Band received 1st place at the Bands of America Regional in Conroe, Texas, with their field production entitled, "Vanity Fair". In 2009, the band did exceptionally well at their first BOA Grand Nationals performance, placing fourth overall, with a total score of 94.50, and winning the Music Caption with their show "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
The Marcus Drumline is a 11-time National Champion, winning the marching drumline competition at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, and 2012. In November of each year, The Marcus High School Drumline is host to The LoneStar Classic Drumline which has become the largest drumline contest in the world. In the Fall of 2010 over 80 high schools performed at the LoneStar Classic.
